Elsa Mateus has been diagnosed with Juvenile Idiopatic Arthritis in 1977.
She is PhD in Anthropology (speciality Anthropology of Health).
She is President of the Board of the Portuguese League Against Rheumatic Diseases, since 2015.
She has been involved as volunteer and delegate in PARE/EULAR activities since 2009. Since 2013 she is member of EULAR network of Patient Research Partners and since 2014 she is member of the PARE Board. After completing the EUPATI training on Patient Expert in Medicines Research and Development Process in 2015, she is EUPATI Fellow and also the President of the Board of the National Platform EUPATI Portugal.
