Historian, researcher and University lecturer
Raquel Varela is a historian, researcher and University lecturer. Starting Grant from the Foundation for science and technology/Universidade Nova de Lisboa/IHC and Fellow of the International Institute for Social History (Amsterdam).
Professor-international visitor Fluminense Federal University, where he teaches a Chair in the field of global labour history in the graduate program in History.
She is a member of the NIEP. She is international judge CNPQ/Brazil.
She is coordinator of the international project of global labour history In The Same Boat - Shipbuilding industry.
Author and coordinator of 23 books on work history, the labour movement, global history. Published as author 44 articles in journals with scientific arbitration, in the area of sociology, history, political science and social service indexed in ISI Thompson, CAPES Qualis A, Scopus, among others. She performed more than 200 invited lectures/courses in more than 50 national and international institutions. She was also coordinator 9 national and international funded projects, in the last 4 years. She supervised 12 post-doctoral, doctoral, masters and sandwich-grants.
She is the editor of Critique. Journal of Socialist Studies(Glasgow Uni.), and Workers of the World (IASSC).
She is a member of the editorial board of several academic journals and founder of Global Labor Studies network. She is a member of Board of Trustees of the ITH-International Conference of Labour and Social History (Austria), the oldest Association of Labour Studies in Europe.
She is currently President of the International Association Strikes and Social Conflicts, a network that has 35 institutions of Europe, North and South AMERICA and Latin America. Scientific responsible of official celebrations of 40th anniversary of 25th April Revolution (2014).
In 2013 she received the Santander Prize for Internationalization of Scientific Production.
